eGPU

The PC which I passed to Esther with the i5-3570K is kind of dead. There is probably some problems with the main board causing issues in Windows. Tried a fresh install and that did not helped so it is probably hardware. It is 7 year old hardware.

Since she has the Thinkpad X1 Yoga and the NVIDIA GTX 1080 TI is still very powerful, we decided to get an eGPU enclosure. Wanted to get the one from PowerColor but there is no stock available. So we ordered one from Razer which is the Core X which was $100 cheaper. We ordered on Monday and it was delivered on Tuesday. No complaints there.

Installation was easy, plugged it in via the type c cable and it was detected. Had to install the NVIDIA drivers manually but that was easy. After a restart, it was working. Performance was really good too. The enclosure was running quite silent too which is good.

The only bad is the type c thunderbolt 3 cable is so short. Just 50cm which means that it is just slightly longer than the enclosure itself. Ordered an active 2m cable from Apple, so hope that works.
