Long lasting bubbles

Sometimes I feel very divided on whether every pursue of science is worthwhile. On one hand, any knowledge gained is knowledge gained and you really never know when it would be useful. But on the other hand, resources are limited and thus the need to prioritise is important.

So it was really amusing to see that some french physicist decide to create long lasting bubbles. I really wonder what did they have to tell the granting agency to get money to do this.
